John Kellas has been appointed for the second time as a chair of the International Auditing and Assurance Board (IAASB) on June 3, 2006 by the Board of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). Kellas will start his second term on January 1, 2007 until December 31, 2008. The decision was endorsed by the Public Interest Oversight Board (PIOB).
Kellas stated that he is pleased to being reappointed for the second time with (IAASB), he will continue to promote and enhance the Board.
“The continuity of the chairmanship of the IAASB is important at this time as we are in the middle of the initiative to improve the clarity and effectiveness of our standards …. I’m looking forward to working with IAASB to bring both successful conclusions” kellas said.
Meanwhile, the IFAC president Graham Ward stated, the Board is pleased that kellas accepted the reappointment for the second term as the chair of IAASB. “We are delighted that Kellas has agreed to accept the reappointment for the second term as a chair of IAASB. This leadership has been invaluable over the past the years” Gerham said.
Kellas as a chair of IAASB will continue to lead IAASB’s efforts, in order to develop high quality International Standards on Auditing. In addition Kellas will continue to serve as the primary contact with IAASB Consultive Advisory Group, to ensure that public interest perspective is fully considered.
PIOB Chairman Stavors Thomadakis also noted, that kellas acceptance of reappointment will play a major role in ensuring that the IAASB continues to focus on important issues that greatly affect the international interest.
IAASB is an Independent Standard Board within IFAC. It is primary dedicated to serve the public interest, for instance, it provides high quality auditing and assurance standards. On the other hand (IFAC) is the Global Organization for Accountancy profession dedicated to serving public interest by strengthening the profession and contributing to the development of strong international economies.
