TAGorg Will Not Evacuate its Buildings Till Last Judicial Proceedings Take Place

Criminal Court Looks Into Case Tomorrow, Higher Court of Justice Issues its Ruling Thursday

AMMAN- It is expected that the Higher Court of Justice will issue a ruling on Thursday, March 6, 2008, in the lawsuit raised by Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman and CEO of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAGorg) on the illegality of expropriation, in relation to the real estate of TAGorg in the Abdali area.

On the other hand, Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh had filed a complaint at the Amman Conciliation Court against Engineer Omar Al-Maani in his personal capacity, in addition to his position as the Mayor of Amman. The complaint deals with the crime of presenting false evidence in contravention to the regulations of Article 266 of the Penal Code. The first of the sessions looking into this case will take place on March 5, 2008.

TAGorg is also preparing to present a lawsuit to the civil court demanding compensation for damages due to the abuse of authority by the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and its illegal procedures since June 2005.

Back on February 12, 2008, TAGorg announced in a seminar convened by the Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) that it will not evacuate its buildings since the case is still before the courts. It is expected that these cases will be followed through till the last possible judiciary proceedings, and that rulings will be issued by the criminal and civil courts in accordance with the appropriate laws.
